How to get a Tezos Wallet

If you are collecting Tezos, chances are you need a web wallet to take part in the NFT ecosystem (Kalamint, Hicetnunc, Byteblock), DeFi, or even simply to stake your Tezos. This tutorial is to cover the basics on how to acquire a wallet.

You will need a Tezos wallet and some Tezos to be able to do any minting/collecting on NFT platforms. I suggest the Kukai wallet as you will be able to login with an existing Twitter/Gmail/Reddit account.

Common alternatives for a Kukai wallet are the Temple wallet (browser extension wallet, Tezos equivalent to ETH based Metamask) and the Galleon wallet (desktop based).

This is a bit more complicated, however if you have a Metamask the steps should be familiar to you.

NOW WRITE YOUR SEED PHRASE DOWN AND STORE IT IN A SEPARATE SECURE LOCATION.

LAST PASS OR ANY OTHER ENCRYPTED PASSWORD MANAGER IS ALSO A REASONABLY SECURE WAY TO STORE YOUR SEED PHRASE.

IF YOU LOSE YOUR SEED PHRASE, YOU WILL LOSE YOUR ACCOUNT. THERE IS NO ACCOUNT RECOVERY.

Enter wallet password. THIS IS NOT YOUR SEED PHRASE. This is to enter your wallet after periods of inactivity on your computer.

Click on protected to reveal seed phrase. Then write it down on paper and back up to an encrypted password manager.

Congrats, you now have a Tezos wallet!

You can create more wallets inside of your Temple wallet. This will still be connected to your seed phrase, however a new private key will be generated for each new wallet.
